We’re all about reaching out to folks here – so we’re going to keep a blog where both employees of Anime Limited and friends of the company will be posting up on a range of things every week.  Sometimes it’ll focus on products we’re releasing, sometimes on the industry as a whole or something outside of Japanese animation that has caught our eye.

If you want to see some more visual-orientated things check out our Tumblr at anime-ltd.tumblr.com for now – we’ll have a few other surprises for you in the next few months too news wise that we hope you like.

009 RE:CYBORG & MULTI PLATFORM RELEASE DATE!

Many of you have been patiently waiting to find out exactly where 009 RE:CYBORG will be screened. As 009 is highly anticipated viewing, not least for it’s breathtaking visuals and 3D effects, there have been many, many enquiries about local listings. Well the wait is over, we’ve got a finalised list of where, when and how you can watch 009 RE:CYBORG as well as details on its multi-platform release!

What does multi platform mean?

You’ve likely seen some live action films primarily doing this but we believe that being able to see the film, legally and easily is important.  Of course we’re big promoters of seeing a film on the big screen where it belongs but it’s also pretty tricky on a first film project to get coverage that leaves everyone with a screen within easy reach.

This means we’ll be making use of the nifty technology that www.distrify.com have created to allow people to enjoy the film in 2D streaming from the day it comes out on its limited theatrical release!  More on that shortly!

So how can I watch it?

1. Cinema screenings

The following cinemas will be showing 009 RE:CYBORG in 3D (some will have 2D screenings as well). The cinema listings have been split into Scotland and England in order to find your nearest screening easily. We’ve also included the links to the cinemas for more information.

Scotland

Edinburgh Filmhouse – June 7th – 10th in 2D and 3D (link)

We have another venue we’re awaiting their booking before we confirm so far too!

England

- London – Hackney Picturehouse June 7th, 8th (link)
- London – Ritzy Picturehouse (Brixton) June 7th, 8th (link)
- London – Stratford East (Stratford) June 13th (link)
- Liverpool – FACT June 22 (link)

Don’t see it somewhere you’d like to?  Let us know and if there’s enough demand we’ll do our best to add it to a cinema near you!

2. Digital

On day of launch – it’ll be available for streaming via distrify – which you can embed anywhere and more importantly is you make 10% of the profits from anyone who pays to stream the film through your share of it!  We’ll have that up on the hub page at www.alltheanime.com/cyborg on June 7th!

We’ll also have the film up for order on iTunes rental (Download-to-Own will start from September 1st onwards) and FilmFlex into July too – so you’ll be able to support the film over a range of different platforms.  Don’t worry too – we’ll be looking to schedule the film into more cinemas in 3D over the next month too!  If you want it somewhere specific – let us know and well do our best!

Check back soon for more information

More information to come shortly – keep an eye on our hub site –  www.alltheanime.com/cyborg for more information!  In the meantime – here’s a snap of our theatrical poster for the film – like what you see?

Anime Limited’s Big MCM London Debut

MCM London is just around the corner and we hope you’re looking forward to it as much as we are. This year looks very promising and there’s so much going on. With all the noise and excitement building up we figured it was a good time to lay out our plans for MCM London May 2013.

Where will we be?

Anime Limited will be set up at Booth #1003 – just over from the main stage so stop by and say hello!

What are we up to?

There are quite a few things going on at our booth this year, including the following:

  • Anime Limited will be partnering up with our friends at Kaze in order to bring you the latest in their and 101 Anime’s DVD offerings. The titles will include the latest parts of your favourite shows so make sure you stop by and catch up!
  • Shinichiro Watanabe will be there! As you’ve all heard, Cowboy Bebop director and overlord Shinichiro Watanabe will be signing stuff at our booth once a day during the expo for an hour a day. Mr. Watanabe will be signing one piece per person, so please don’t bring everything you own and thus, weigh yourself down with possessions and disappointment.
  • Anime Limited’s booth will come complete with a gorgeous panel dedicated to Cowboy Bebop (I’ve seen the designs, they’re pretty). So come along and have a look, feel free to take pictures, pose with it or what have you. If you do take pictures with our panel, don’t forget to share them with us on our Facebook page! (www.facebook.com/alltheanime)
  • New title announcements! Yep, that’s right we’ve got several new title announcements to make at MCM London so make sure you pay special attention on the Saturday and Sunday. We will also be posting these announcements online so if you’re not there live, you won’t miss out.
  • Finally, the big one everyone’s looking forward to: Shinichiro Watanabe will be taking part in a series of panels at MCM London on the Friday and Saturday. Make sure you make time to attend as they will definitely be one of the most sought after events of the conference.

We’ll be posting times and places for the signings and panels soon, so keep an eye out for more announcements.

So that’s it for now! We’ve got a busy couple of weeks ahead of us but it’s going to be fun. Come by and say hello, check out our booth and feel free to share your experiences with the world, or at least the conference. Whether or not you’re at MCM London, you can still find out what’s happening by following our Twitter account and Facebook page.

See you all there!

Top Sellers: April 2013

Another month, another sales chart!  Trying to close that gap on time it takes us to post these now as we know people are interested by how the shows are doing and this time the chart was compiled by me [Andrew] and as I’m feeling extra talkative [*], you’ll get an extra layer of commentary.

Highest sales overall:

RANK TITLE COMPANY
1 POKEMON 4EVER CANAL UK
2 PERSONA 4 – THE ANIMATION – BOX 2 KAZE / VME
3 SPIRITED AWAY CANAL UK
4 MY NEIGHBOUR TOTORO CANAL UK
5 THE GIRL WHO LEAPT THROUGH TIME MANGA UK
6 HOWL’S MOVING CASTLE CANAL UK
7 ARRIETTY CANAL UK
8 OKAMI-SAN & HER 7 COMPANIONS – COMPLETE MANGA UK
9 REDAKAI SEASON CONQUER THE KAIRU MANGA UK
10 NARUTO SHIPPUDEN – BOX SET 12 MANGA UK

Notes from El Presidente:

- To make this chart you had to sell more than 300 copies.
- HOWEVER to sit at the top of it – you had to sell under 1,050.
- The above range is not out of the ordinary for a regular month.
- With HMV returning to the picture now, the range may shift by a few hundred units from June.

Top sellers for new releases in April:

RANK TITLE LABEL
1 PERSONA 4 – THE ANIMATION – BOX 2 KAZE / VME
2 OKAMI-SAN & HER 7 COMPANIONS – COMPLETE MANGA UK
3 KING OF THORN MANGA UK
4 NURA – RISE OF THE YOKAI CLAN – S1 PT 1 KAZE / VME
5 FRACTALE – THE COMPLETE SERIES MANGA UK
6 TIGER & BUNNY – VOL 2 – EPS 8-17 KAZE / VME
7 OBLIVION ISLAND MANGA UK
8 LOUPS GAROUS MANGA UK
9 SHANA SERIES 2 PT 2 MVM
10 GA-REI-ZERO – COLLECTION MVM

Notes from El
 Presidente:

- To make the bottom of this chart you had to sell over 100 copies [EDIT: Apologies, Oblivion Island's shift to April 1st threw us as it showed up on a different date in sales data]

- To reach the top of it you had to sell under 800 copies.

- The difference between #10 and Vampire Princess Miyu (which didn’t make the top 10) was very small.

BONUS FACTOID: Perfect Blue:

Also a small factoid for people, while it was stated that Perfect Blue didn’t do so well vs the price for reacquiring it in the UK before in a previous podcast from our friends at Manga UK – we think there may have been a bit of confusion over what they meant.  BVA figures show it actually sold over 55,000 copies on DVD previously – a lot of which were pretty cheap but still represents lot of units!

That still puts it just inside Manga UK’s top 10 sellers of all time, so we suspect what was meant was that at the time everyone started looking for the license again it was in a rights management agency’s hands who wanted $$$$$$$$ for it beyond what was fair.  When the rights reverted, the fee went back to something more reflective of its actual value.  That said it also became much harder to find the correct rights holder at that point too!

###

Hope these figures are proving interesting to people!  We’ll keep posting them up so long as there’s interest :) .

[*] OK – it’s that or focus on localising a booklet from French to English for one of Anime Ltd’s clients and I figure, why not procrastinate for a bit…
